Michael is a European Patent Attorney with broad technical expertise and a particular focus on complex, software-driven inventions.

He has extensive experience drafting and prosecuting patent applications across the electrical, mechanical, and software fields, supporting clients from early-stage innovation through to grant.

Before entering the patent profession in 2019, Michael developed a strong foundation in scientific communication, professionally presenting live science and planetarium shows to public audiences. This background has equipped him with the ability to explain sophisticated technical concepts clearly and persuasively.

Michael’s career includes previous experience in the fields of satellite design and agriculture, as well as in the financial sector, where he worked as a quantitative analyst. Combined with a first-class BSc degree in Physics and research experience at the Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics, this background enables him to practice confidently across a wide range of technical areas. These include artificial intelligence and machine learning, media coding, telecommunications, image processing and rendering, semiconductors and computer architectures, satellite imaging and communications, medical devices, optics, and video game technologies.

He has particular expertise in navigating excluded subject-matter objections, a key challenge for computer-implemented and machine-learning inventions. Michael works closely with clients to develop robust drafting and prosecution strategies to maximise the scope of protection in this evolving area of patent law.

Outside of work, Michael spends his free time surfing waves, climbing mountains, and dancing. He also loves to act and regularly performs in local amateur theatre productions.
