Ian Whitfield provides intellectual property advice across a wide range of fields related to engineering.
Before joining Reddie & Grose in 2019, Ian previously worked as a patent attorney at firms in London and Manchester, where he advised the full spectrum of clients, from individual inventors to SMEs and multinational companies.
Ian is a Chartered UK and European Patent Attorney. Due to his breadth of experience, he is comfortable handling patent work in many different technical fields, from mechanical and automotive engineering, consumer products and white goods, through to consumer electronics, energy, and oil and gas.
Ian has developed particular expertise in assisting foreign patent attorneys in navigating through patent prosecution in the UK and Europe, working to secure valuable patent protection for their clients whilst also dealing with the unique issues raised by UK and European patent law.
Ian is also a European Design Attorney, with experience in preparing and prosecuting registered design applications in Europe and internationally, managing international portfolios, and advising on infringement and freedom to operate.
Outside of his work in the office, Ian’s interests include backpacking, football and scuba diving.
