Ally is a qualified UK and European patent attorney specialised in engineering.
Over the last decade she has represented innovative companies before the UK and European patent offices and managed their overseas patent prosecution. She has worked across a range of technical fields including consumer products, automotive, aerospace, medical technology, and manufacturing.
She also has experience in drafting patent applications and advising on reducing freedom to operate risk. Her current practice includes managing portfolios of patent applications for multinationals and drafting and prosecution work for startups.
Before becoming a patent attorney, she gained an academic background in materials science and engineering from Imperial College London, where she graduated with the highest grade in the academic year and was awarded the Governor’s MEng prize in materials and the IOM3 RH Craven award.
She enjoys working with inventors and startup decision makers. She has significant experience in advising startups on how to focus their IP strategy so that expected costs fit their long-term goals, how to protect their core IP to stand up to larger competitors, and how to explain their IP strategy to investors. She will often distil complex information into need-to-know summaries to help busy founders save time to focus on bigger picture decisions.
Outside of work she enjoys open water swimming, and taking her young child hiking, prepared with snacks and accepting that she will be carrying him a lot of the way.
