Alec Cooke is a trainee patent attorney in the Electrical, Electronics, and Software group.
Alec joined Reddie & Grose in September 2026 after having completed an integrated master’s degree in engineering science at the University of Oxford, taking final year modules across Non-linear and Multivariable Control Theory, Electrical and Biomedical Engineering.
Alec’s research projects consisted of the development of a computer vision system using convolutional neural networks and visual transformers for movement analysis in physiotherapy and sports, and the research of a medical device using closed-loop control of heat therapy to treat back pain. This particularly focused on the development of an algorithm to detect muscle fatigue from live electromyography data. Additionally, he completed a summer project designing new closed-loop systems to control plasma shape in the UK’s national nuclear fusion experiment.
Outside of work, Alec enjoys playing and watching sports, particularly cricket and football, as well as reading, cooking, and travel.
