Aidan Mooney is a trainee patent attorney in the Electrical, Electronics and Software group.
Aidan joined Reddie & Grose in September 2025 after graduating from the University of Nottingham with a master’s degree in mathematical physics.
Aidan’s master’s project involved a critical investigation and review of quantum machine learning algorithms in both the NISQ and fault-tolerant regimes, with specific focus on the Variational Quantum Eigensolver, Quantum Phase Estimation and Quantum Principal Component Analysis. Additionally, he developed methods for optimally grouping commuting Pauli observables via mean-square-error minimization and convex optimization, reducing state measurement overhead. The project also assessed the scalability and limitations of proposed quantum advantage under realistic hardware constraints (i.e. noise, circuit depth, hardware scalability).
Outside of work, Aidan is an avid runner and triathlete. He also enjoys bikepacking trips and being in the mountains.
