Ethan Hutchings is a trainee patent attorney in the Engineering, Manufacturing, and Consumer Products team.

Ethan joined Reddie & Grose in September 2022 after beginning his career as a technical engineer for an aerospace manufacturer that works with multiple global OEMs. His work, as an engineer, was particularly focussed on new product development and introduction of aircraft engine components. This involved creating methods of manufacture, ensuring that materials adhered to industry testing standards by advising on heat treatment, forging, and machining processes, and using CAD to simulate 3D models of components during the manufacturing process.

Ethan studied Aerospace Engineering at a master’s level. He undertook a wide range of modules, gaining knowledge in high performance materials, airframe structures, simulation-based product design, thermodynamics, propulsion, flight dynamics and control. Additionally, he completed a research project analysing the efficacy of the MacCormack method; using it to solve Euler equations, when applied to a shock tube.

During his studies, he was an active participant in Formula Student where he was the lead in simulations for the chassis team in his final year.
