Phil joined the firm in 1996 and became a partner in 2004.

Much of Phil's practice is in the chemical field, with a particular focus on pharmaceuticals. He handles the drafting and filing of patent applications before the UK and European patent offices, and prosecution of patent applications. Phil's experience in handling the patent portfolio of medium-sized pharmaceutical firms means he has a broad range of experience of patent practice around the world, including emerging markets.

Phil regularly provides opinions on third party rights for his clients in the pharmaceutical and other fields, and has experience in opposing third party patents before the European patent office.

He has a keen interest in music and manages a band.

• Degree in chemistry, University of Bristol
• Doctorate in medicinal chemistry, UMIST (synthesis and bio-availability studies of an anti-tumour drug)
