Reddie & Grose are delighted that their ex senior partner Richard
Abnett’s contribution to intellectual property in the UK and around the world
has been recognised by the award of the Order of the British Empire for services
to intellectual property rights. Richard became an Officer of the order in the
Queen’s Birthday Honours list published on 14th June 2008.
Richard is a well known and highly respected member of the intellectual
property community. He served as President of the UK Group of the Association
Internationale pour la Protection de la Properiété Intellectuelle during his
long service on the Council of AIPPI UK, and was involved in organising the
AIPPI Congress in London in 1986. Richard has been involved in improving the law
and practice relating to patents and trade marks and was for many years a member
of the Steering Board of the United Kingdom Intellectual Property Office. During
his terms as President of the Institute of Trade Mark Attorneys (ITMA), Richard
was instrumental in making that organisation the force it is today in the
intellectual property world. Richard edited the Community Trade Mark Handbook,
and he is an active and valued member of many other intellectual property
organisations.
In addition to these public achievements, Richard was until October 2007 a
valued partner of Reddie & Grose and remains with us as a consultant. As
well as providing his clients with expert advice on their patent and trade mark
portfolios, he has trained and mentored many members of this and other
firms.
Nick Marlow, acting senior partner, said:
“This award is thoroughly deserved and his friends and colleagues here
could not be more pleased for him.”
