From 2 April 2007, the name of the UK Patent Office will be the UK Intellectual Property Office, or UK-IPO for short.
The change of name was a recommendation (number 53) of the recent Gowers Review of Intellectual Property, to more accurately reflect the role of the office in serving as the principle UK regulatory authority for all forms of IP rights, including patents, trade marks, design rights, and copyright.
The URL of the Patent Office web site has been updated to reflect the change, and is now http://www.ipo.gov.uk, although the old address redirects to the new site. Click here for the UK IP Office’s fact sheet containing information on how the changes will affect correspondence with the office.
