Tom Sharman

Tom joined the firm in September 2005 having graduated from the University of Birmingham in 2005 with a Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering. He handles UK and European patent work in the general mechanical, automotive and consumer products fields. He also handles UK and European Community registered designs and UK and European Community trade marks. He was made an associate in 2009.

  • First Class Master’s in Mechanical Engineering, The University of Birmingham
  • Diploma in Industrial Studies (DIS) from the University of Birmingham for a 14-month internship at BMW Manufacturing (UK) Plant Oxford, working on the new MINI

Awards

  • AIPPI UK award (July 2011) for best contribution by a young attorney towards answers prepared by AIPPI UK to questions being considered at the October 2011 ExCo in Hyderabad, India (August 2011)
  • Adrian Spencer Memorial Award (April 2011) for the highest mark in the 2010 UK trade mark qualifying examination T3 paper

  • Contributed to AIPPI UK’s response to Q217 concerning the patentability criteria for inventive step / non-obviousness
  • Co-wrote article on the importance of protecting IP for Sunday Times book: "Working for Yourself" (2006)
  • Co-wrote article for the Parliamentary Diary, Parliamentary e-Diary and Parliamentary Diary online (2006-207) on the importance of protecting IPR
